i would like to thank the UGA vet staff for their help with my 17 year old Yorkie during a medical emergency on Friday, labor day. i found him unresponsive and rushed him to their facility. they immediately took him in and began various tests to determine the problem. it appears he had some kind of stroke and appears to be mending well. yes, i know they are expensive but that dog is a family member and deserved the quick professional treatment he received. the staff was pleasant and professional and i was thankful they were available to help him. thanks to all for treating maxx with care.

My cat was unexpectedly losing weight and throwing up. After $2K of tests, they had no answers, other than the recommendation of another $5k of tests and exams. What a joke. Also after the $2K I had spent, they sent me a bill for an additional $10. Why didn't your billing department calculate this while we were checking out?

Our puppy Dixie was admitted for Pulminary Stenosis. Heart Balloon surgery. She died in surgery after third attempt. no answer why third attempt was tried. Heart Broken. supposed to be a good Vet hospital and just turned out to be some experimental college for college trained Vets. Our hearts are broken because we were never told about the risk. Still paid $4500. to kill our puppy.

We went to uga as a referral from our vet, we aren’t local. Went in for a specialist visit, thought it would be more of a check up. They ended up keeping our dog the night and did a procedure the next day. There was no fluid in his lungs before his procedure, we got a call that he was in critical care because there was now fluid in his lungs. We had to put him down after they put him on oxygen and he couldn’t breathe on his own. We now have an astronomical bill to pay for them killing our baby boy, he was only 5. We are more than heartbroken. I do not believe they did their best, something happened in between him being fine and coming home the next day, to him never coming home.

Its said that when your puppy has her face ripped open in a fight and you really need help for her that UGA is still only worried about money. Like they need more, its really said because the money wasn't a problem. It is sad that at the end of the day my puppy would suffer.. THANKS FOR NOTHING.. braselton vet is taking care of her. True thanks to them

When almost everyone else is closed for Labor Day, they were here working hard. I got in, my cat was seen immediately (it was an emergency) and everyone was very kind, caring and compassionate. My cat wouldn’t urinate, which can be quickly fatal, and they took her in as soon I got there and started checking her out. She ended up being fine thankfully, but had it been a real emergency, I could tell she was in great hands. So thankful for them doing what they do.

Everything about this place feels cold. Don’t bring your pet here if you’re short on funds. We took our cat to another vet after paying nearly $300 here for various tests and vaccines. Out of curiosity, we had our other vet quote the same procedures - they were 1/4 the cost! They said UGA is way over charging. I would assume that a teaching hospital would be better on the wallet but it’s NOT and they will not help you or make recommendations if you can’t pay everything they ask. The girl that called me to explain things about my pet knew very little and could not answer my questions, just tried to get me to pay more and more. I received an email about 2 days after the visit detailing issues with my pet. It was comprehensive, but again, cold. Empathy doesn’t appear to exist here in any way. My other vet takes the time to explain things to your face and speaks with you like a human being!! I’m giving 2 stars, because we were given some recommendations about treatment and a lot of food for our cat. But for the price we paid, I don’t feel that it was worth it at all. Based on my experience...I will avoid from now on!

I cannot say enough good things about the cardiology department. Dr. Toborowski and the vet student, Alissa, who cared for my dog were extremely thorough, professional, and compassionate. Although they are very busy, I truly felt that my pup received the very best care and was their utmost priority. I had lots of questions and they were very patient in answering everything, and have called to keep a check on him. So so thankful that we were able to get in to see them. Well worth the drive and the expensive prices (but that is to be expected with a specialist). I will say that I was not as pleased with the emergency department, the receptionists were not very friendly or caring. But Dr. Toborowski is top notch and truly cares about what he does.

UPDATE: We went to a different vet (The Animal Clinic West) the day after visiting here. They did two BASIC tests, a crop swab and fecal stain, that the university refused to do, we found out what was wrong with our baby, which was a bacterial infection of her crop, and got prescribed a simple antibiotic and anti-inflammatory. Our baby bird is now on the tail end of her recovery and is thriving. We're so happy now that we didn't just give up on her like was suggested by the University vet. How simple and inexpensive the diagnosis and treatment for our birds sickness was by our new vet just reassures me that this is NOT a place to take your exotic animal. ORIGINAL: We are crushed by our experience here. We took in our 4 month old green cheek conure because she was sick and we couldn't find anyone else to treat her in a short enough amount of time. It took over two hundred dollars just to get her in the door while we sat in the parking lot to wait. And this was only for them to call and tell us that they had no idea what was wrong, and to do any of the tests to find out we would have to pay $1000 on the spot and that the rest would total at minimum $2000 more. They only care as long as you have a big bank account. When we said we wouldn't be able to afford it, The vet had the audacity to say if we wanted to avoid the cost of the exam, that we could surrender our bird to be euthanized and dissected by a class of students, OR if we didn't want to do that, she could off the books OD our bird on muscle relaxers to "help her give up and go peacefully at home". This is absolutely dispiccable, and horribly wrong to say to somone who is crying in their car over the phone because we knew our baby was going to die. We begged her to not touch or do anything to our baby. They will never see us, or anyone we know again.

I called about my parakeet that had been in a tussle with a cat. She seemed fine and I couldn’t see any injuries, but it’s standard practice to still administer antibiotics even if there are no injuries seen, because the tiniest scratch from a cat can kill a bird due to the bacteria they carry. I explained this to the person who picked up the phone, and was told that even if I brought her the 3 1/2 hours up there, if they didn’t see a wound, they wouldn’t give me the antibiotics (which by the way I could easily buy online without a prescription, I just didn’t have time to wait for it to be delivered). Then I was told it would be $240 JUST TO EXAMINE HER. That is absolutely outrageous, especially for a clinic that uses students. And there would be additional fees for any tests she might need. I had just told this person exactly what I needed, exactly what the issue was. There was nothing she needed to be tested for. I’m glad I decided not to go here, because based on my experience and other reviews I’ve read, they probably would have kept suggesting expensive, useless tests, and when I said I couldn’t afford it, I would be told to put her down. It’s sad that this is the only place in Georgia that has an avian vet available after normal hours.
