I recently had my dachshund, Pebbles, spayed at the Athens Humane Society, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. I was recommended this clinic by someone else who had their dachshund spayed there and had a great outcome—and now I can say the same. Pebbles’ surgery was very quick. I dropped her off around 8:30 a.m. and picked her up around 2 p.m. When I got her in the car, I noticed a bit of bleeding at the incision site. I brought her back in, and the staff was quick to explain that she may have moved a little and caused some of the surgical glue to come loose. They took care of it right away, and we went home soon after. Of course, I was a little anxious about her recovery at first, but everything has gone smoothly. Now, eight days later, her incision looks great, and she’s back to her usual, playful self. I understand there’s still some internal healing left to go, but outwardly, she’s doing incredibly well. The entire process—from scheduling to pick-up—was smooth and efficient. Being able to pay online made things even easier. Overall, I’m extremely pleased with the care Pebbles received and would absolutely recommend Athens Humane Society to anyone considering spay or neuter services.

We had such a wonderful visit to this adoption center! There are so many adorable cats and dogs, and it’s really fun to spend time with them. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, answering all our questions and making the whole experience enjoyable. You can interact with the kittens and puppies, which is perfect for kids—they had a blast! The place is clean, welcoming, and well-organized, making it easy to look around and get to know the animals. We’re already planning to come back soon to adopt one of these cuties. Highly recommend it to families and animal lovers!

Had my two kittens neutered here. When I arrived for pickup in the middle of normal pickup hours, the building was locked and dark inside. I went next door and eventually got someone to tell me they were in a staff meeting and no one could release my pets to me. Was not told beforehand they would be closed this afternoon, no sign or note on the door either. I had another appt to get to this afternoon and had to pick up my daughter from school in between, so was getting increasingly nervous. After a while a manager came out and said she was authorized to check me out and would ask them if she could do so. I let her know I had another appt, etc. and she said she'd communicate that to them. She eventually came back and said they didn't want her to check me out, and could I just leave and come back in 20 mins?? Where was I supposed to go to? I said no, and asked her to talk to them, by this time I'd been waiting 20 mins already. No one came back. Eventually someone opened the doors and I was able to get my pets - which took less than 2 mins - but I'd had to wait over 40 mins at that point. They all came pouring out of their meeting room laughing and having a good time, meanwhile I missed my other afternoon appt and my daughter's school was trying to get ahold of me. Had a bad experience here a year ago, but thought I'd give them a second chance. Won't be back a third time. Just imagine if ANY other business operated like that and treated people with no regard like that? They need new management.

I’m on a fixed income and I scheduled my dog bolo an appointment. I paid the 35 dollars as required and then had to pay another 55 dollars for exam,trimming paws,rabies’s shot, all done in 8-10 minutes. .Afterwards I asked how much he weighed and was told 75 pounds, then she put him on the scale in the lobby and his weight was mid 60s, another lie. She gave him a complete exam trimmed all his paws gave shots and weighed him under 10 minutes for 85 dollars, never got trimmed or heart checked or anything else,please don’t go to this place

Had an appointment for a spay and neuter. Drove 44 miles to be there on time. At the same time, they brought in a lot of small kittens. My pups became excited, not aggressive. All of a sudden the personnel didn't feel "comfortable" operating on my pups. My opinion is the personnel had their hands full with all the kittens and tried to schedule me. I won't be doing business there again.

The staff are great and it's very obvious that the animals are very well taken care of. Their facility is very nice and we'll kept. Highly recommend them if you're looking for a place to find a new furry family member!

I can not, in good conscience, recommend this shelter to anyone. I adopted a puppy yesterday (8/4/25) after he was neutered. He immediately began bleeding on the way home. Took him back, a shelter employee said it's ok, that it'll stop bleeding over time and he wasn't losing a lot of blood. Got him home, set him down and with 20 mins, there was a puddle of blood. Pup was still in good spirits, so we "doctored" him up (gauze pad and a wrap) until I could get him to a vet today. He bled through the wrap twice. Took him this morning (8/5/25) to our regular vet, and he was mortified that anyone would alter a puppy at 8 weeks old. He explained that it increased the risk of parvo and other terminal diseases as well as what we're dealing with, a lack of "control of bleeding". I've taken him to our vet twice today for the bleeding and it's still going. And they can't safely open him back up to "fix" whatever's going on. My vet is amazing and is doing everything within his power to help this situation, but honestly, I don't know if it's going to work. This is absolutely ridiculous and I should not be dealing with this at all for $250. I have not called, because I honestly feel like this should not have happened and you only get one shot at this.

I scheduled Bordetella for my pet online. Upon arrival September 16, 2025, I was informed that I must pay for an exam as well. An exam was completed by AAHS on Saturday September 13, 2025 and I wanted to give back to the Agency by scheduling the Bordetella. This is gouging. It is frustrating to see an organization that promotes compassion and care fail to extend those values to the people who support and rely on them. My pet is always up to date on vaccines etc (Coming due soon) and it could have been easily proven to avoid the additional fees but I was not afforded the opportunity to do so. Receptionist was beyond polite, empathetic and wanting to accommodate however the salt & pepper haired manager waivered her decision after asking "is it for the person standing there" (mind you I'm the only person in the lobby) If negative 1 was a review, that would definitely be my review.

I adopted a kitten from this shelter through a foster. The kitten I received had fleas, really bad stomach issues, was completely underweight. I was told she was completely healthy. When she was 2 months old the foster came to my house to take the kitten to get fixed, she called me after and told me the surgery went well and she was going to pick up Strudel, she comes to the door and gives the cat back and says they mixed up the kittens and strudel didn’t actually get fixed. She was there, ALL DAY. Strudel was so SCARED, she pooped all over herself, I didn’t feel comfortable taking her back to that vet after what happened, 600 dollars later after taking her to a real vet, multiple times, she is a healthy kitten. They never called me back about getting her fixed, when I asked the foster to take her back so she could get looked at she told me I was on my own. I love my new pet, she’s my world but this was completely unprofessional, they charged me $150 for an unhealthy kitten and then never even fixed her. She’s still not fixed, I would really like someone to call me so we can come to a resolution I added a before and after picture so you can see how tiny she was (I’m not a cat expert but I know she was underweight) I Love strudel, but being lied to by the foster and or the shelter is inexcusable.
