I would like to shout from the rooftops how great this office is especially if you have a phobia. Everyone should be going to this dentist. I’ve left a ridiculously detailed review below for anyone who has a phobia and is interested in seeing what a cleaning and filling are like with this provider: The office itself is kind of spa-like without being too ritzy or overbearing. The staff are extremely accommodating. They saw my husband was doing school work in the waiting room and politely moved him to a private office for his comfort. All of the staff are friendly, professional, and seem genuinely happy to be at work even at 0800. I almost felt like I was at a church potluck.(Christy and Caroline are DARLINGS) My cleaning and exam were refreshingly thorough, and informative. Judith (I think?) cleaned my teeth within an inch of their life but I had NO pain. She pointed out areas that I could be flossing better and demonstrated exactly where, how, and the amount of pressure I should be using. These folks CARE about the health of your teeth. I was NEVER ever ever made to feel any shame about needing accommodations for my anxiety or for the state of my teeth. I also feel that dental offices sometimes infantilize people with phobias. Here, my anxiety was seen as a matter of fact that needed clinical attention, not as something I needed to be coddled about. When I came back to get my filling done, I was prescribed a small dose of Xanax to help me sleep the night before and the same dose to take before the appointment. It was enough to make everything feel like no big deal but not too much that I felt like a bowl of jelly. Everything about the appointment was perfectly paced. If you’re anxious, you know that listening to them open all of the sterile tools and get prepped while you’re sitting in the chair can ramp up your anxiety, but here there was none of that. They sat me down, gave me the laughing gas and collaborated with me on the appropriate dose. They encouraged me to use noise canceling headphones and quickly laid out how they would communicate so I wouldn’t have to take them off. They tapped my chin so I would know when to open and close my mouth and that worked really well. They got started quickly because they were well prepped before I got in the chair. I was THOROUGHLY numbed and genuinely didn’t feel anything. The drill also seemed very quiet in comparison to other offices but maybe that was the Xanax lol. I never ever thought this would be me but I think I nodded off a few times. If you are facing phobia/anxiety about dental work you need done, this is the place. Thanks again to the folks at this practice who gave me an amazing experience.

Hands down the best dentist around! Virtually zero pain or discomfort the many times Dr. Allen has fixed my grill from cavities to a broken front tooth. Not to mention he can sculpt teeth like Michelangelo sculpts stone! Friendly & talented staff/hygenists as well that treat you like family. I’ve been through 5 Athen’s dentists and so glad Dr. Allen was recommended to me by a friend!

It is hard to put into words how wonderful Dr. Allen and his team are. Since I was small I have hated the dentist. "Hate" is a strong word, and I do not use it lightly. When my front tooth chipped in October of 2018 - just two days before I was leaving on family cruise - I was irritated, worried, frustrated...you name it. I'd only lived in GA full time for about a year at that point. My trusted dentist was in Florida, and I hadn't established a relationship with a local office. So, in need of a quick fix, I called a dentist in Athens that was recommended by a coworker. She wasn't accepting new patients, and recommended Dr. Allen. I'm SO glad she wasn't able to take me, because it led me to Allen Dental. When I called, it wasn't Dr. Allen who eased my mind. It was Kristi, his Dental Assistant and Office Manager (Yes, she is superwoman - she does BOTH jobs). Kind, caring, and knowledgeable, she assured me that I would be okay and that the massive amount of "teeth-fixing" I needed would be a breeze. She was right! Dr. Allen is personable, kind, honest, and he listens. He is genuinely a nice person - no phony rhetoric or pretend interest in his patients. He really does care. Yet, I suppose what's most important is the quality of his dentistry. His work is beautiful, and he wants to be certain that his patients are happy with all results. I could not ask for a better experience. Did I mention that I once hated going to the dentist?
