Very friendly and quick service. The food was good as well, with a sports bar vibe. We were full after the entrées but decided to indulge in dessert too and tried Pan de Elote Brulee. It was amazing.

This place is now my new favorite Mexican restaurant! I live north of Atlanta, and this is definitely worth the drive! In Athens for work over a few weeks, this my go-to spot for dinners! From a smoked Old Fashioned, to a huge chimichanga... Love it! Try the San Angel burrito! Black beans with grilled chicken, chorizo, and pineapple to add a gorgeous burst of flavor to the spice. I can't stop ordering it! Friendliest staff, owners and managers make you feel welcome! Great atmosphere! A definite MUST EAT in Athens!

I've been twice since they opened. Last summer and recently. Service both times have not been what I expected. I'm still giving 5 stars overall because hopefully I can have a better experience if I decide to visit in the future and because the food and atmosphere are truly amazing! My dad loved their salsa for the chips. He said no other place prepares it as good as them. I've had the Alambres plate, tacos, and San Angel Appetizer with queso panela and Chile poblano. Delicious! Lots of good comments here about service and attention to customers, so likely it has just been my experience with the servers on both occasions. No refills. We had to ask for them towards the end. Had to ask for napkins and straws for the drinks. We were asked how everything was during our meal, so that was appreciated.

I like the atmosphere. I hate to be seated next to the front door. The lady did not fix that, there were plenty of empty tables. I had chimichangas. The shredded chicken was hard to chew. The baby frozen mango cóctel was not good. It was sweet and salty. I would not try that cóctel again.

Y'all, this is the MOST AMAZING Mexican restaurant we have ever been too. It's not your normal Mexican restaurant, it's more authentic and the food is AMAZING! We got beef called Birria that is like a pot roast but 100 times better. They do live music on certain nights also. So good, we will be bringing everyone here!

Beautiful space for casual dining. I love the design and the holiday decor was perfect. Our server, Jay, was friendly, professional, and very patient. We even got sweet thank you notes on our receipts. Lovely touch. Made it enjoyable. Even the hostess was very kind and accommodating. I will return and recommend for such amazing service!

My husband and I had dinner at San Angel Cocina and were lucky enough to have Leo as our server. From the moment we sat down, he was warm, kind, and attentive. He patiently walked us through the menu, gave great recommendations, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever making us feel rushed. I ordered the shrimp tacos with rice and beans, and my husband had the vegetarian fajitas with shrimp, both meals were fantastic, but it was Leo’s service that made the evening memorable. He treated us like valued guests and went above and beyond to make our dining experience enjoyable. It’s rare these days to find a server who brings that much care and professionalism to the table. Leo is a gem, and San Angel is lucky to have him. If you’re coming here, ask for Leo, you’ll be in great hands.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but this place really deserves some love. From the second we walked into San Angel, the vibe was warm and welcoming. You can feel right away that it’s a family-run place that actually cares about the people walking through the door. Let’s start with the food — everything was beautifully presented. You could tell they put thought into every plate. My tacos looked like they belonged in a food magazine, with bright, fresh ingredients and a clean, colorful setup. The flavors were just as amazing. You can taste the freshness in every bite, and it’s clear they don’t cut corners. What really stood out to me, though, was the service and the way the place is run. The manager Jairo was out on the floor, greeting people, checking in, and making sure everything was going smoothly. It didn’t feel forced — it felt like he genuinely cared that people were having a good time. That energy trickles down to the servers too. Everyone was friendly, quick, and super helpful without being overbearing. Little things made a big difference — like how fast we were seated, how often they checked on us without hovering, and even how clean everything was. It just feels like a well-run spot that’s proud of what they do. If you’re in Athens and craving Mexican food that’s both delicious and made with care, San Angel is it. Can’t wait to go back.
