Mama’s Boy is, without a doubt, one of the best breakfast spots in the country and it’s all thanks to their legendary biscuits. These biscuits are everything a Southern biscuit should be: moist, fluffy, buttery, and warm. They soak up the rich, savory gravy like a sponge, without turning to mush. Each bite is pure comfort. The fried chicken is just as impressive crispy and golden with a light, flavorful breading that lets the juicy chicken shine through. The portions are just right: generous but not overwhelming, leaving you satisfied and smiling. Take the cornbread-battered fried green tomatoes: tangy, perfectly firm slices coated in a golden, crispy cornbread crust. Each bite delivers that satisfying crunch followed by a burst of Southern flavor, with just the right balance of savory and a hint of sweet cornmeal richness. They’re a must-try side or starter that could easily steal the show. And then there’s the French toast—thick-cut, soft in the middle with a golden, caramelized exterior. Lightly dusted with powdered sugar and served with warm syrup or fruit compote, it strikes the perfect balance between indulgent and comforting. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Mama’s Boy is the kind of place that makes you wish breakfast lasted all day. From the biscuits to the chicken to the warm, welcoming vibe, this place sets the standard for Southern breakfast done right.

Loved the cheese grits, just not quite enough food, the french toast topping was great but the bread was boring. I am not sure if it actually got battered dipped or just came close to an egg plus it was hardly grilled, so very tasteless.I put vanilla & cinnamon in my mix. I see this all the time and I rarely order it out because its usually disappointing which is sad because it’s not rocket science.. 1) lay the bread in the egg batter making sure THE CRUST GETS COATED, FLIP N REPEAT, 2) then grill to golden brown in butter not oil, cooked until its not soggy. Trying to imagine the cooks thought process … if I soak it then it takes too much time to cook. 🤔 I prefer to wait rather than eating a piece of warm grilled bread. Servers were kind, place has zero atmosphere, the plastic fern in a pot outside HAS GOT TO GO! 😱

If you like Mama's boy, then you will enjoy this popular location. I've never been where there wasn't at least a few minutes wait to be seated, but once you place your order (counter service order) it comes fairly quickly to your table. This is a mix between counter service and a table service style restaurant with more of a sit down feel. It's uptown home style southern mainly breakfast (with a few sandwiches and salads) cooking with huge fluffy biscuits and jam.

I know tons of people eat here, food portions will do that. But i dont think it's so special that I'd wait more than 15-20 minutes to get a table. The location was good and they do a fair job of checking up on you. All-n-all id say it was a pleasant experience with 7.5-8 out of 10.

I've eaten at the original location which at the time had cosy, full service. I chose to go to the newer location at The Falls of Oconee figuring there would be more parking available. But this rendition isn't full service. This location is order at the counter. The staff does at least help you buss the table at the end of your meal. This location was ideal families with small children and there are several child seats and unisex bathrooms equipped with diaper changing. Food wise, this was not as good as I remember. I ordered Truck Stop Biscuit and Gravy. This comes with a Sweat Tea Brined Chicken Breast and Sausage Gravy. I asked if I should order extra Gravy and was told no. But the Gravy doesn't fully cover both sides of the biscuit. This is the same situation with the piece of Chicken. This dish has Scambled Eggs on top of the Gravy. There is no real discernment of Sausage in this Gravy. The Biscuit is large and soft. The Potato Hash is plain with Onions and Green Peppers or flavoring and spices. I had Sweat Tea but it tasted a bit stale. My dining companion had a Bacon, Egg, and Cheddar Biscuit but it was missing the Cheddar. He asked for a small Milk but this was really sized for a child. As a side dish, I ordered Bacon. For $4.99 I got two pieces of bacon. Ambiance does not compare to the original location. My dining companion was my first guest In town and came during Christmas Holiday. I had really wanted this to be a nicer meal. In the future, I would not bring a guest to this location.

The menu was really creative and exciting. We would have loved everything we ordered except none of it was hot. Literally everything came out room temperature. Cheese grits are only good if the cheese melts. Butter didn’t melt on the waffles. Having warm food would have made it next level.

Weekday lunch w 2 friends from out of town. The place was not busy at all. I had a salmon croquette "sandwich" on a biscuit. The meal was cold, the croquette obviously precooked, dry, flavorless. A side of potatoes, likewise just reheated, dry, unappetizing. The "service" such as it was, was perfunctory and careless, just some bros who happened to be hanging around in the place. Pitiful, really. I will never go back in this place. It's a shame, the location is really nice, but it's not *really* a restaurant, if it ever was one. Nobody inside gives a damn. Sort of pricey, too.

We had a gift card and decided to visit. The food was fair to good. Service was fast but drink/coffee refills didn’t happen. Pricing is a touch high for what you get.

This is now our go to spot when we visit Athens. We have never had a long wait and the parking is spacious. Quick, friendly service. Food is well prepared and delicious. This go around we had the banana bread for a starter. It was hot and gone before I could get a good picture. my son had half stack of pancakes and bacon and had no complaints. I had the mill town breakfast plate with over-easy eggs, grits, bacon sourdough toast. I also got a side of the jalapeño bacon jam. Yum. Husband had the farm and said it was good he likes the gravy.
