I recently stayed at Howard Johnson for work, and unfortunately, my experience was far from acceptable. From the moment I walked in, things went downhill. **Cleanliness:** The room had a musty smell and appeared not to have been properly cleaned in quite some time. I found stains on the bed sheets and pillowcases. The bathroom floor was dirty, with visible soap scum and hair in the corners. The towels were not fresh — some were stained and had an unpleasant odor. Additionally, I found a dead bug in the door frame and mildew spots in the shower, suggesting that basic housekeeping habits are being neglected. **Receptionist / Customer Service:** The receptionist was rude and dismissive from the start, continuously questioning my boss about where we worked. There was a distinct lack of empathy and no acknowledgment of the inconvenience. **Overall Impression:** For the price we paid, I expected at least basic cleanliness and courteous service. This stay left me feeling frustrated and unwelcome.

Would not recommend. We felt like we were staying in a 1-star motel based on the feel of the building and felt we had significantly overpaid for the quality. Our biggest concern is that we think our room may have had bedbugs. The mattresses looked fine, but we had some red marks in the morning and there was a suspicious section of the baseboard with redish debris in the cracks.

I give this place five stars because of the great staff! Ms. Jackie at the front desk was amazing! Always friendly and helpful. This is an older hotel but the rooms were cleaner than most new hotel I have stayed. You can smell the clean for the halls. For the money I was very satisfied.

The room was nice & clean. The beds were comfy. Staff was very friendly! We didn’t eat breakfast here but heard it was decent. Our only complaint is that when we called they said the pool is open but when we arrived it wasn’t. Staff said it doesn’t open til June & “the pump is broken”. Disappointed cuz there isn’t much to do here. No fitness center either. Price was good though.

Great place to stay! Clean and respectful place of business. Jackie, at the front desk is GREAT. Athens has a large diversity in many things. The customer service is impressive. Not too many places I would recommend. Great stay, all the way around.

Staff was very courteous, knowledgable and w/ excellent rapport. Room is outdated and needed a touch of updating (fresh coat of paint, decoration/design, microwave, TV, etc); Toilet had issues when flushing > noisy, not much pressure); Hot water was instant (A++); Continental Bfast was simple/easy which could have been a bit more personalized w fresh items. What was provided was packaged goods. Coffee and Bananas were great. Thumbs up on my end.... no major complaints!!! FYI Room prices change/fluctuate depending on city activity/concerts/events... however book early and confirm

Decent hotel. Lots of remodel done. No more carpeting in the hotel (the best change that hotels are making right now) very nice shower. Too cold for the pool right now, but looked nice. They have the pump bottles of soaps on the wall. Everything looked and smelled clean. You could easily hear people walking down the hallway, so if you're a light sleeper, the room a/c has a fan option which worked great for us to drown out that sort of noise. Otherwise it's a pretty quiet place. We didn't really encounter too many people. We were further back and we could not hear the highway. Honestly even being outside, the highway wasn't much of a disturbance. The breakfast is all prepackaged. It doesn't seem like there's any sort of lobby kitchen so don't expect any eggs and bacon for breakfast. It's more a complimentary breakfast vs continental. But they had a decent assortment of things and we had a good breakfast. You walk to a few things. There's a Mexican restaurant next door to the lobby. We walked up the street a little bit and went to a tavern. It wasn't that far. You could walk further up to other things, but it's a good distance. There's crosswalks to cross the main highway, but no sidewalks. You just walk on the grass and through parking lots. But you can definitely walk if you like. All in all, it was a good little spot and I would recommend it as well as go back myself.
