Historic Athens is not only one of the most vital organizations in Athens, it has become essential. The number of people who are actively engaged with it has expanded tremendously in the past five years and its lectures, panels, and other events are well attended by a wide range of diverse and enthusiastic citizens. The term "historic" includes not only stewardship of the past but also collaborations with some of Athens' most forward thinking citizens with the goal of improving the overall quality of life for everyone. It is one of the most respected and proactive organizations in the city. We are very fortunate to have such high quality vision and leadership.

I can’t say enough about the essential work being done by Historic Athens. As a volunteer I have enjoyed working with many like minded members who appreciate and understand the importance and value of celebrating Athens’ many historic resources. Our town is special and supporting Historic Athens with our energy, financial resources, love and time significantly impacts our surroundings and unique quality of life, plus— it’s fun!

Historic Athens is the leading institution in Athens that serves to protect our beautiful historic neighborhoods and heritage as Athenians. As Athens continues to grow in population at such a rapid rate, I am so grateful for the initiative that this non profit is taking. I had the pleasure to attend both the Mardi Gras Masquerade at the 40 Watt and the annual Preservation Awards this year at the Morton in June. Both events were not only a good time but very well organized. If you care about conserving the place that you once, or now, call home, join me as a member of Historic Athens.

Historic Athens is an active agent in the Athens, Georgia community working to conserve its heritage. This 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization assists the community in its appreciation of the dignity and immeasurable worth of historic neighborhoods, buildings and heritage in Athens. I personally became aware of Historic Athens after attending their First Annual Athens Mardi Gras Masquerade and meeting the inspiring, enthusiastic team behind this organization headed by Tommy Valentine. My husband and I were quite impressed when an intern spoke at length with us about upcoming projects and the direction in which the organization was headed. As parents of young children and as residents who have decided to make Athens our long-term home, we decided that we would continue to support this organization in any way we can.

This small but mighty organization keeps the soul and heart of Athens alive by preserving the places and saving the stories of people who have made it the vibrant, creative, and peaceful place that it is today. Historic Athens cares about our diverse community and strives to bring people together.

Historic Athens has been a key part of our life in Athens; it gives Athens an identity and connects the residents to its past and gives them a sense of belonging to the Classic City. Athens is arguably the most desired city to live in Georgia and considered one of the "best" places to live in the Southeast. If you are a resident of Athens, I would urge you to attend the Historic Athens seminars and see how you can connect to its resident in a very personal way and take pride in whichever neighborhood you may live in. You will find some very energetic and enthusiastic folks to bring the city to you.

Historic Athens is a great organization that is dedicated to preserving the historic remnants of Athens county. Not only does it provide service to the preservation of the county it also gives service to the community who have needs. This organization is critical to the Athens county because serves as a lighthouse that is placed in the center of the county, serving and aiding those who need guidance.

Changing Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation's name to Historic Athens makes a lot of sense and fits the mission of the organization even better. Love the work this group does to highlight, protect and promote Athens historic legacy.

Historic Athens lives its mission ... right down to re-purposing the wonderful Old Fire Hall No. 2 as space for its offices and meetings, and as an event venue. Happy to be a member and contribute to community historic preservation efforts. Thank you, Historic Athens!
