My unit at Columbia Brookside is by far the nicest apartment I've lived in over the years. I very much enjoy living here. The management is very nice and professional too. They are always ready to help me with what I need.

My daughter’s microwave has not worked for 3 weeks & Mgmt assured me a week ago that they would replace it or repair if possible. I leave messages & NOBODY calls back. All I get is that recording from the Community Team that they “are here to help.” That is not true! I live 600 miles away so I can’t just drive over to the office. Any suggestions? Who is over the office manager? Corporate owner? TYIA

First we could not have pets, but there are dogs ,cats and they are not good for people with allergies and they sometimes urinate before they get outside. Another thing is that the elevators stop working and we have to climb up and down stairs and it is too hard for some of us to do so. The electronic doors stop working especially after a thunderstorm. We were told that it is an active community but there are people in here that needs to be in an assistant living community. It's so depressing to see people who have so much difficulty trying to get around. It's not sound proof and the noise is so irritating. Then another thing is that we are talked to like children and the rent is too much for seniors. Plus there are some very strange people that cause a lot of division and nothing is done about it. I t is new but built very cheap and there are not enough elevators. It should be a heavy duty for the moving in and out and another for regular passage. I hate to say what I have but it's the truth. God knows I don't like being negative but I have become so depressed living here.

Been a pleasant experience overall with just a few downsides. Nice clean apartment, good neighbors, and a nice staff. Moving in took a while with some hold ups but it ended up working out fine and they made it up to us. My biggest complaint is that the gym is not open during the hours that were originally promised. Recently now though, they are open almost all day except only during office hours monday-wednesday. I realize that the kids can be destructive, but also for those working normal hours it is impossible to go to the gym these days. Overall a good experience here.

Great place for senior independent living. A family member has been here since last August. She loves that she was able to keep her 2 small dogs. They have daily movies in the theatre, a fitness gym, a computer/internet room, sitting areas, elevator, trash service and nice outdoor seating areas with a gazebo. They have a maintenance tech and housekeeper that does a great job meeting the needs of the tenants. They may need a little extra help in the office. It is hard to reach someone by phone but Amy does a great job managing the residences. I personally am happy to have my family member living here knowing that the staff and other residents are watching over her and alerting me if they have any concerns. A key card is needed to enter any door of the building and on site security camera monitoring, adding to the security of the residents.

I love this facility. The leasing staff are far above most senior places that I've lived at. The management staff here is exceptionally good. Their goal seems to be to make every effort to make the residents Happy and welcoming.

This is a very quiet peaceful place to live. The people who live here are very friendly. You can make many friends if you would like to do so. There are many amenities available to you.

Potential Residents Interested in Columbia Brookside, If I could give this community ZERO stars, I would. I have been leasing apartments in Athens (some old and some brand new) for the past four years and signing a lease with this property has been my only mistake. I would not recommend that anyone live here. The property is beautiful, the apartments are brand new and high end, but the management possesses the professionalism, care, and customer service of a five year old. My first month as a resident, they lost my rent money order and it has gone downhill since then. They have taken zero blame and in the middle of the process, the leasing team was let go and replaced with even more incompetent individuals who are accepting zero responsibility for the mishap of their past colleagues. Extremely unimpressed with the way that they handle their business and we will soon be pressing charges because the situation is still not resolved. On top of that, I have gotten improperly billed for water and have had a package stolen from my doorstop. Today is 9/8 and I became a resident on 7/1. Such a short amount of time for all of this to be happening but it has been made evident that they have has issues due to the complete reorganization of the office. UPDATE 9/16 I have spent the entire week trying to get in touch with the corporate office in Atlanta and each time that I try to get in touch with Ed Samson (VP) or Kiana Wood (coordinator), their calls lead straight to voicemails. The receptionists have told me that they have been in the office everyday this week which shows that it is poor customer service all the way up the chain. Will not be visiting the office personally.

If I could give this place a zero, I would. I was told that I wouldn't have an issue getting into an apartment by a worker in the office name dreta as long as I have a great rental history, no unpaid utilities on my credit report , & a clean criminal background. I was told by Dreta that the company I currently rent from takes their time faxing rental history back so it will take some time for Brookside to get my rental info back from the company I'm currently renting from. So, the next day (less than 24 hours) I called Brookside back asked to speak to Dreta. I asked her about the status of my application. She told me to hold while she pulled it up. She left me on hold for 10 minutes , maybe more. When she got back on the phone, she told me I was denied due to an hospital bill. I told her I didn't understand because you told me you only looked for utilities on my credit report , not hospital bills. She then said, "oh, no! We look at your credit as an whole!" I was completely confused because for one there's no way Brookside could have received my credit report, rental history, & background check all together in less than 24 hours. Not to mention that's not what she told me they look for on the credit report. I was later told by an actual current tenant of Brookside who told me the same thing Dreta told me ( Brookside only looks for unpaid utilities, clean rental history, & a clean criminal background) when I was filling out my application before she decided to change her word after they denied me. I have four kids, It's so frustrating & disappointing to be told one thing & then for Brookside to do something completely different. I honestly believe they're moving in who they want & not people that are actually eligible. Brookside needs to get rid of workers like that because it's not fair to me & other people like me.
