I have heard a lot of buzz about this place so I wanted to try it out. The waitress is very friendly and attentive. The food came out fast and was hot. The BBQ was good quality and very tasty. I loved that they offer vinegar based sauce which is not common in Georgia. The only issue is the fries were bland. They have a school lunch vibe. Otherwise it lived up to the hype.

My wife and I came to town for an event and googled places to eat nearby our hotel. We settled on Butt Hutt barbecue. I called a friend of mine who used to live in Athens and asked him about the place. He highly recommended the brisket sandwich. I went to the place and ordered in person for takeout. They were busy plus they had a party going. The girl was very nice informing me It would be about 45 minutes. I don’t know if it’s always like this on the weekend. The 45 minutes went by way too fast. Awesome down home atmosphere. And the food? As advertised! Very good.

Food was phenomenal!! As a restaurant owner I am always thrilled when I find gems like this one! Food, atmosphere, service was all 10/10 hands down! We had the ribs and pulled pork, stew, Mac n chz and okra. Every bit of it was delicious!! But yall!! GET THOSE SKINS!!! We brought some home along with an extra serving of stew. We will definitely be back!

I believe this is the best barbecue in Athens and the surrounding area. I always prefer good food to polished surroundings. The atmosphere is typical of an established older roadside barbecue place serving takeout meals. All the food on the menu that I have ordered has been very good. Whoever’s doing the cooking really knows what they are doing and takes pride in feeding folks. Excellent comfort food in generous portions. I always eat in but they do a booming take out business as well. They also have a bar area with a good selection of beer. My favorite is the Butt plate with Texas toast, coleslaw and fried okra. Sometimes we share an order of the homemade potato chips which are excellent. My wife loves the sandwich instead. The chopped BBQ chicken is good, too. One of the few restaurants I know that serve real homemade banana pudding. This is the cooked custard classic like my Mom made that never saw the inside of a Jello box. Scrumptious.

drank all of my sweet tea and took the top off the cup to find a bug in the bottom of the ice. i went back to speak to the manager but he or she wouldn't even come speak to me .. they sent someone else up with a short message of "i can give you a new drink" which i don't understand WHY i would want another drink when this one had a bug in it already.

Nothing spectacular to note. No beef ribs as well as limited sides. Kitchen efficiency is lacking and it took 20 minutes to get my combo plate.

We came here on a Tuesday while visiting Athens and its not crowded. We always look for small local restaurant . Service was quick and staff are friendly and attentive. Our food came freshly made and right temperature. We had rib basket and they were tasty. Price is reasonable.

The brisket and ribs are delicious. I am not big on bbq but this place is definitely an Athens staple. Their chicken muck or whatever people call it in the south is good. Simple food that matches the expectations.

Great visit the food was great and service was good. Pork skins were awesome and basket with pork sandwich and fries were on point. Would recommend the boiled peanuts as well and will be back when in area
