I do like everyone there. they're all very kind and easy to get along with while shopping. In my opinion they seem to offer much lower than they should to make a better profit. Though that is how they pay the bills. Others had told me the same thing. For the most part they have fair prices. I do feel they have always been fair with me. I suggest you come check them out for yourselves. they do have a very nicely kept store and they probably have what you're looking for in a pawn shop and more. They aren't selling junk that's for sure

Great prices, willingness to negotiate, very informed on products, & truly a long running family owned, & run, business. Nothing I have ever purchased there was subpar, like many other pawn shops. They have a vast selection of products. My thought after many types of transactions with them is that anyone should use this as their pawn shop for pawn or the purchase of high quality used goods... Most of the products are in phenomenal shape. I am very happy to support a long-standing family run business in my community.

If you’re looking to buy, transfer, or sell a firearm, I strongly recommend going elsewhere. Prices here are extremely high you’re paying new gun prices for used inventory. Transfer fees are also steep at $40, while most other shops charge around $20–$25. Selling a firearm here is an even worse experience. I was offered just $300 for an HK SP5K, which is easily worth around $2,000. It’s clear they plan to list it for full market value while giving sellers next to nothing. For better prices, fairer offers, and a much more respectful experience, I recommend checking out Gateway Jewelry & Pawn or Franklin’s Gun Shop. The staff at both are far more reasonable, and their pricing on new guns is significantly better.

I went today to sell a coin, I was shocked. They actually made me a good offer. I’ve never had that experience at any pawnshop. All of them that I’ve been to in the past would give me a ridiculous offer so low it was an insult. Joe took the time to explain his offer and everything he told me was truthful. I had already done my due diligence and knew what it was worth, which is your responsibility not theirs. Thanks Joe.

Dishonest business practices. This place completely took advantage of a disabled young man selling a gold ring who was clearly very confused and had no idea what he was doing. Lowball is an understatement. To be charged an extra $125 to get it back after 4 whole days ! To add to the insult....... next time know.....a disabled persons helper is called a caregiver, not a "HANDLER!" There's a special place for people like you..

Over the years I have bought quite a few things from Thortons but I won’t be back. Seeing literal Nazi memorabilia for sale was extremely disappointing. I understand such things being in a museum to teach of the atrocities committed during World War Two but to see it for sale makes me sick. I can put up with a lot but NAZI stuff come on, do better Thortons.

Old Dude with the white beard and hair could use a attitude adjustment went in today to see about selling a ring and dude just looked at it for two seconds then asked what I wanted so I told him. He try to low ball me saying a 10k white gold ring only had $40 worth of gold to it then proceeded to say a stone was missing when I know 100% that pawn shops take the stones out to re sale them so that shouldn’t have mattered at all. I also heard this was the owner himself and that this wasn’t the first time he’s been like that. Worse pawn shop to go too for business try the one next to Home Depot for better costumer service

I bought quite a few different things from Thornton and trusted them. Yesterday I bought an air rifle from them and when I got a chance to double check the value they had doubled it. They outright lied to me when I asked for their price. They nearly doubled the retail value and said they priced it for half that, and I trusted them. Im so dumb for not checking before I bought it. Lesson learned. They'll lie to you and rip you off without blinking an eye. I'm not happy with myself for trusting them.

2025 hands down the best pawn shop in the area. They have the most knowledgeable staff, & they are willing to work with you & be extremely fair. The Thornton family are extremely easy to work with. I honestly would not want to do business anywhere else. They aren't just the best pawn shop in Athens, but one of the best stores in the town overall. Thank y'all
