Be very careful and ask a lot of questions about how your child will be sedated for wisdom tooth extraction. I’ve had two encounters with this “Provider” and both very negative. The first time was to have my teenage daughter’s 1 tooth removed. She was given a combination of Valium, Versed, Nubian, Propofol and Ketamine. She wasn’t in her right mind for 3-4 days. And yes, “Dr.” Miller. I know the “half-life” of all of these medications. Do you know the side affects of this combination?? We decided to try him again.. at our dentist recommendation. We wanted to have 1 tooth extracted with local anesthesia only. When we asked about just a little sedation, Dr. Miller became defensive about his cocktail of medication. My daughter is 18. She had cataract surgery with only Versed and Fentanyl. It’s unnecessary to have more sedation than this to remove ONE tooth. I’ve been a pediatric nurse for 20 years and in healthcare for 29, a flight nurse for 8 years. I’ve never given this much medication to conscious sedate a child for a procedure (at a nationally recognized Pediatric Hospital) ... setting broken bones, abscess tooth removal, sutures etc. Dr. Miller... know your audience when you speak. We require 4 hours of NPO (nothing by mouth) to conscious sedate anyone/a child ... my child was 6 hours NPO when you said we needed to reschedule because she had not been NPO... you just didn't want to do it. As an educated parent, I think I’ve got the right to ask that my child not be given too much medicine. I’ve also got a right to be at my child’s bedside while you remove a tooth. I mean, unless you’re worried that I see you do something unsafe. Dr. Miller it’s just a matter of time before you hurt someone’s child with your over sedation. I would never recommend this oral surgeon for any one, age unspecified... and by the way, the “anxiety in the room” was YOURS. I wasn’t anxious. I was angry. I’ve used Athens Family Dental for 25+ years and I love this practice. I recommend it highly. I love every hygienist and dentist in the practice that I’ve had contact with... but not this oral surgeon. AFD... it would be great if you’d look into other options for your patients. In the meantime, I recommend Dr. Tomlinson or Satterfield for your oral surgery needs in Athens. I’ve had great experiences with both. I only tried Dr. Miller at the recommendation of my dentist ... never again.

I was so scared going in to have a wisdom tooth pulled.Im 64 yrs old and had put it off for 6 years. The staff was so caring , kind and professional. Mr Miller, the oral surgeon came in and he was so nice and made me feel comfortable that everything would be just fine.He explained the procedure to me and I knew I was in good hands. Its over an hour from my home but well worth the drive. I need to have a few more things done and I am going back there.
