In my opinion, Dr. Steven Hines is wonderful. I was at a very low point in my life and it was Dr Hines who finally listened to me and helped me tremendously! He is very thorough and professional. Having been in the medical field 20 plus years myself, i know what it’s like to find a truly caring, devoted and determined physician and that’s what i found in Dr. Hines . His front office receptionist, Alex is professional and efficient as well . She immediately relays any concerns that i may call her about to Dr Hines and i have an answer in a very timely manner. Dr Hines not only has a medical degree , but Dr. Hines has a calling ! Athens GA is very fortunate to have Dr Steven Hines and his staff.

Dr. Hines is one of the most experienced and highly knowledgeable physicians I’ve ever had. He not only listens and genuinely cares, he is also super punctual, respecting your time, as his patient…something many physicians do not always seem to do. If you want a psychiatrist that is hands down, top notch in his field, knowledgeable, caring and respectful, I’d highly recommend him. I would leave him a million star review if I could!

Dr. Hines is the most knowledgeable and compassionate doctor I have had the pleasure to see. He truly embodies what a physician should be. I came to see him at my wits’ end, never having had any psychiatric issues in my life until a surgical procedure for another health concern created a train wreck of multiple issues. He spent so much time with me, helped me look for other physicians who would help me in the ways I needed to be helped, and most importantly, he truly saved my life while I was having severe panic attacks as a result of this surgery. I cannot thank him enough for everything he has done for me, for helping me and my family realize that panic attacks and depression are not something to be ashamed of, and also having a goal from the beginning to take me off medication as soon as the primary issues causing the secondary psychiatric symptoms were resolved. I have always felt safe with him, even at my most vulnerable. I would recommend Dr. Hines to anyone who needs a psychiatrist, and even more so to people with multiple complex medical conditions like me. He is absolutely the best!

He's a nice guy and really tries and means his best, but his taper schedule for Prozac (5mg every 3mos) fundamentally misses how SSRIs work, and the last 5mg was an effect drop of roughly 50% to 0%. It was completely and utterly debilitating. I was nonfunctional for months. Years later I have not fully recovered from the withdrawal, and I don't know if I ever will. To be absolutely fair, I don't know the extent to which my ongoing struggles are just the result of having been forced to take Prozac against my will at 19 years of age and then left on it for a decade (not this psychiatrist's fault). But I do know that the absolute Hell I went through during the taper could have been avoided if my psychiatrist here had not given me bad instructions, or if I had thought to second-guess his advice instead of assuming he knew what he was doing. I mean him no ill will, but I cannot give 5 stars.

This is long overdue but definetly needed to be done. I owe Dr. Hines and Alex more than I can ever repay in this lifetime. I have struggled with anxiety and depression for 20 years and only managed by my general practiontioner. In 2022 I found myself unexpectatly pregnant at 39 and my anxiety went out of control. I wasn't eating or sleeping and barely fuctioning. I couldn't take my usual meds because of the pregnancy and my general practitioner and OB didn't know what to do for me. They reffered me to a psychiatrist that couldn't get me in for 4 months. I was terrified for the health of myself and baby. I called many offices and got the same response of having to wait months. We didn't have months. I emailed Dr. Hines through Alex and she took it right to him that day and he got me in with in a week. He knew exactly what I was going through and exactly what to put me on that was safe for my baby. Within 24 hours I was able to eat and sleep again. He continued to check on me between appointments and immediately responded with any concerns I had. Finally someone who actually cared about me. I now have a happy healthy 12 month old baby girl and I can't thank Dr. Hines and Alex enough.

Dr. Hines saved my life. For years, I struggled with mental illness and was too ashamed to ask for help. Dr. Hines taught me that it's ok to ask for help and asking for help wasn't a sign of weakness, but rather strength. If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, etc., CALL HIM TODAY!!!! My life truly started after receiving help from Dr. Hines. Bonus, he's pretty easy on the eyes too. ha.
