Today, I had one of the most disheartening experiences at this WIC office. I am a new Hispanic mom with a premature baby who needs her WIC benefits for proper nutrition. We arrived early for our scheduled appointment. My baby, who had previously been sick but is now cleared by her pediatrician, was crying and hungry when we checked in.At first, the front desk staff member, Tery, acted normally until she heard me speaking Spanish to my child. Immediately after, she told me that we would not be seen. I was shocked and thought there had to be a misunderstanding. I called my partner, who also speaks Spanish, and after speaking in Spanish again, I was told I could wait in my car instead of being helped inside. At this point, I had already waited months for this appointment, taken my two-month-old out in public, and was desperate to feed her. Thankfully, another staff member, Linda, and her coworker Lily, showed compassion. Linda immediately offered me a room to breastfeed and worked to make sure I received the breast pump and support I needed. I am grateful for them—but the fact remains: I was first denied help simply because of the language I spoke. Our Athens community is home to so many Hispanic families who rely on WIC. To be treated this way, when all I wanted was to nourish my child, is heartbreaking and unacceptable. No mother should have to face discrimination when trying to access essential care for her baby. Racism and prejudice have no place in public health services.

With all of the things going on in the world right now with government cutting funding, I have never felt more supported in a time of need by this facility. Their organization and dedication to the people is outstanding. Linda was a huge help and made it real easy For me and my family to get what we need.

A staff member here by the name of Terry was so RUDE. EVEN THOUGH THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A FAMILY-FRIENDLY ENVIROMENT, the staff is NOT kid friendly!!! I’d give 0 stars if I could. However, the nutritionist in the back named Neal was very nice.

Linda and Susan are the absolute best! They were very helpful with getting me set up on my pregnancy medicaid and WIC. I was so nervous going through this process so to have people like them that's caring and compassionate, it makes a huge difference. So Thank you Linda and Susan. Keep being great, it impacts people's lives in a major way!

Today was a great day at the WIC office. My first time returning back after 13 years! Sarah worked with me today. She gave us alot of great information on breastfeeding it was very helpful and easy for me to understand! Sarah did a great job with my rescheduling for my next appointment so I won't miss a beat with anything, and showing me how to set things up with my card! Thanks!

Front receptionist is very kind and extremely helpful ! She is so sweet and understanding . She made me feel like I was talking to a family member. I’ve encountered many rude staff when having them a couple of years back , but now staff is very kind, compassionate, understanding, and efficient. It means a lot to many of us! Thank you

Holy cow! When I tell you Linda and Susan went above and beyond for me, they sure did! Had an issue with transferring my info from one county to Clarke and Linda did all she could to get me straight for my daughter to have her formula. They both helped so much especially having a kind tone with you and never made me feel like I was a bother to them. A giant thank you!
