Great shopping center. It has great stores and eating. The parking situation is a pain but you'll find somewhere to park, just maybe not close to the place your going.

Disturbing Experience with Racial Profiling at Beechwood Shopping Plaza I had a deeply troubling experience at Beechwood Shopping Plaza that I feel obligated to share. After working out at Orangetheory and enjoying a meal from Playa Bowls, I sat on a shaded bench outside, waiting for my wife who was shopping at T.J. Maxx. Moments later, I was approached by a police officer responding to a report that someone matching my exact description—a Black man—had followed someone through the parking lot and broken into several cars. I was stunned. The only car I had been inside was my own. Despite checking my ID and confirming I had done nothing wrong, the officer continued to question me, followed me to my car, and never once acknowledged that the report was false. No apology. No accountability. Just humiliation. Later in the day a Lieutenant, explained that this plaza is considered “unsafe” and “overrun with homeless people and crime”—which apparently justifies false accusations and targeting people who are simply shopping, eating, and spending their hard-earned money. This experience was racial profiling. I was treated as a suspect, not a customer. Beechwood needs to take responsibility for the environment it enables and work with law enforcement to ensure that safety doesn’t come at the expense of dignity, equity, and basic human respect. And still no apology from any of the Athens Clark County police department or Beechwood Shopping representatives. Until that happens, I will not be returning—and I urge others to consider what kind of community this shopping center is fostering.

Convient REI shopping while I charged my EV, makes this a new favorite stop when I'm in Athens.

I'm strictly speaking about the facilities design, not the stores. Do pedestrians have the right of way at cross walks? I've seen several drivers going far too fast, and with the columns along the front being very wide they obscure vision and in my opinion give a false expectation that drivers don't need to yield to pedestrians. More signs may be necessary and even speed bumps, especially the ones that you took out back. The handicap parking spots need to be repainted, I've seen several people abuse the spots. If they paid attention they'd see that there's barely a sign painted in the spot, but of course they don't care. Also the back of the facility is not lit well, especially at the new Athens Church where vision is too limited, possibly causing a safety concern for children. Lastly, does the facility have security cameras? If not I would recommend having them installed. I've seen puke spots out back and there's no telling who they belong to.

With the exception of always being busy in terms of the parking lot - particularly when it comes to a TJ Maxx visit - I have only compliments when it comes to the Beechwood Shopping Center. You’ll find everything from Crumbl Cookies and Chick-fi-la to Sephora, Fresh Market, TJ Maxx, Bali Nails, Michael’s and more. Essentially there’s plenty to choose from and lots of shopping options.

This shopping area has been updated and new stores added. The parking is limited at times but a very safe place to shop.
