I will never use this business or Avis as a whole again. I got a vehicle for a work road trip and had to bring it back because it had tire issues. The second vehicle I received broke down and I was on the side of the road for 4 hours. When I returned the vehicle I asked what could be done for poor customer service and issues I dealt with and she said you'll just need to talk to Customer Relations. No apology, nothing.

I will not use this location again. On two separate occasions, I booked vehicles months in advance only to find out the day of that they didn’t have the vehicles I booked. I received multiple reminders leading up to my reservation, but never a call to let me know there wasn’t a SUV available. The management here could care less. In March, I made 2 reservations- one for June and July. This happened both times. In June, I had to frantically rush and find another SUV available that could accommodate my family and this delayed our travels. In July, I was so anxious that I rode past the lot on two occasions. One day they had a vehicle and two days later it was gone. We went inside to ask if there would be one the next day for our pickup and found out they didn’t have anything. Both times I had to rush to find something last minute. Thank you, Enterprise, for coming through. If you are not going to reserve cars for upcoming reservations, what’s the point of making a reservation? I consistently used their vehicles but I will no longer be giving them my business.

Me and my boyfriend booked a car almost 2 month ahead of time and had it payed for. Our pick up time was for 12:00. When we got there they said it would be an hour bc the cars were otw. When I called back an hour later, the Avis associate hung up on me because she didn’t have the car. I then called the number back multiple and received no answer. When we went up there for a second time, they told us that they had no clue when our car would be there. They didn’t even know if it would arrive that day. The lady that I was speaking to was very rude and was very dismissive to me and my boyfriend. I was simply trying to find out when our car would be there and she told me to call the 1(800) number and get a refund. That refund would not be back in my account for 7-10 business days. While I was on the phone with the Avis hotline, the cops show up and ask for mine and my boyfriend’s IDs. The cop was very rude and would not let me or my boyfriend speak at all. They Avis workers told the cops that my boyfriend was acting a fool and being aggressive. When we asked to see the footage of the things they were saying, they ignored our request and told us we had to leave. This was most definitely racially motivated. The officer laughed in my boyfriends face and told us that our reservation was canceled and that if we didn’t leave that we would be arrested. When the officer told us the reservation was canceled he said that the lady he was speaking to was the manager, yet when we asked to speak to the manager, we were told she wasn’t there. We will never use this company again and I hope that this as well as everyone else’s review warns other people.

This one star is only because Google requires it. Let me be clear: this location deserves ZERO stars for the unacceptable and discriminatory treatment we received. I am the husband of the person who originally made the reservation at Avis Car Rental in Athens, GA (1870 W Broad St), and what we experienced was humiliating, traumatic, and clearly marked by racial discrimination. We made an online reservation to pick up a vehicle on July 3rd. When we arrived, we were told that the debit card used for payment was not accepted and that it had to be a credit card. A family member offered to help with their credit card, but it was declined. The woman who assisted us showed absolutely no willingness to help and told us that we could no longer rent because we had made “two attempts” that day. We left and tried to find other options (everything was sold out due to the holiday), then called Avis again. A phone agent helped us create a new reservation under my name and using my credit card, and confirmed the reservation was fully paid and ready for pickup. He specifically said the vehicle would be released without issue. When we returned to the same location, the same woman immediately stopped us again — this time even ruder, colder, and completely dismissive. She refused to hear us out and said we were not allowed to rent, despite this being a new reservation under my name and card. My 10-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son were with us and witnessed everything. She treated us with complete disregard and only processed the refund after her assistant stepped in. My wife tried to explain the situation to other customers, and this woman falsely accused her of harassment and called the police, in front of our children. The entire experience was deeply upsetting for them, and left all of us shaken. This was not just bad customer service — it was racial discrimination. Avis should be ashamed of this behavior. We will never rent from this company again, and we will make sure others know what happened.

Wow! Ran into the same problem as everyone else where my reservation was paid in full months in advance only to be told there wasn’t a car for me. I was told that there will be some returned cars at noon so they will give me a call or I can check back then. I waited when I didn’t get a call, I tried to call but didn’t get an answer. Decided to drive there again just to find the door locked no one there. There were no other rental places with an available car so we are scrambling to figure out what to do. The employee should have emphasized that they would be closed at noon instead of telling me to wait for returns at noon to check back. Wasted 5 hours of my day running back and forth waiting on a car. Just so disappointed with how this was handled.

This is the best car rental experience I've had in awhile and I've rented from multiple companies and various locations. Made a last minute reservation and they made picking up my rental easy. Super kind office staff and efficient! Quickest pick up i've had! Returning the car was very easy as well and they offer after hours drop off if needed. Car was clean and on the newer side of things. Would recommend and rent from here again. Thank you for restoring faith in rental car companies after my last few were nightmares.

Reserved 12 passenger van 2 weeks in advance. Taking son and friends to Braves baseball game. The morning of my scheduled pickup, I receive a call from manager of this location informing me that she was sorry but they did not have my reserved van or an adequate substitute vehicle. When I informed her that her apology was meaningless and I needed a van, she became defensive and made her feelings the most important issue. Not her failure, her feelings. How dare I not accept her apology. When I arrived at the location to express my frustration and find out what could or would be done to make things right, she proceeded to inform me that I would be banned from property and would not rent to me again. To add insult to injury, I got charged $50 on my credit card for failure to pickup my reserved vehicle. The manager her is an angry, unhappy woman who should be avoided in business and life. Avis has some issues to address. Enterprise Rental solved my problem.

We made a reservation days in advance, yet when we arrived to pick up the car, it had been sold to someone else. They then asked us to wait indefinitely without any guarantee of a replacement. This is completely unprofessional and unacceptable—what’s the point of reserving if you can’t honor it?

I rented a car originally for one week because my car was lost to a total insurance claim. I asked before I rented the car if I needed to return it before a week was up if I would be charged for the entire week. I was told no I would be charged only for the days that I use the car. I used the car for 2 and 1/2 days and was charged per day which was more than the cost for the entire week. When I called and spoke with a representative at Avis they told me there was nothing that they could do about it. A real bait and switch!! Avis is a dishonest company and I will never rent from them again!!!

My wife and I were planning a road trip to Denver, CO. from 2/22 to 3/5/2021, and so I reserved an intermediate-sized SUV to be picked-up on 2/22. When I arrived at the Avis location at 1870 W Broad St, Athens, GA, I was informed that, despite my reservation, no intermediate-sized SUV was available, because the one that I had reserved had just been put on “auction” status that morning, and the only other such vehicle on site had a nail in the tire. I was offered two choices: I could take a full-sized sedan, or I could wait an hour until the tire was repaired. As a layperson, it seemed to me that an even better choice for a customer would be to simply lift the “auction” designation for a few days, but I must acknowledge that I’ve never been to Management School. Since I had no way back home and was about to embark on the first leg of a 22-hour, multi-day drive, I chose not to wait. I got in the full-sized Ford Sedan that they gave me and was halfway home when I noticed that the tank was only half-full. I called Avis, and they advised me that they had noted that on my rental agreement, and that I need only return it half-full. It was annoying to have to stop, but I gassed-up before returning home so that we could finally get on our way. Before I go on, I want to point out here that, like the two other vehicles I have previously rented from this location, the vehicle was filthy. There was visible dirt in various places, there was actual trash in the passenger-side door pocket, and there was an airport parking lot sticker still affixed to the front window. On a previous occasion, I got in a vehicle and touched the console, and my hand stuck to it because someone had spilled a slurpy all over it and no one from Avis even bothered to check or to clean it before passing the vehicle off to me. Has anyone at Avis heard of COVID-19? Are there any health regulations in these dangerous times regarding the proper cleaning of vehicles between customers? What might I be catching by my contact with these vehicles? When my wife and I tried to load our luggage into the trunk of the sedan, it did not fit, and we had to put some of it into the back seat. My wife was particularly irate about the filthy condition of the vehicle, and so I suggested that we stop but Avis on our way out of town to see if the SUV had been repaired yet, and if it had we could switch vehicles into something more suited to our purpose. To begin, I told the Avis representative that the vehicle was filthy. She didn’t blink an eye – didn’t offer an apology - but replied that she had a Ford Expedition that we could switch to. We accepted, but I noted that I had filled the half-empty tank in the Ford Sedan. She said that the Expedition tank was half-full, but that she would note that we could return in on “empty”. Several days after our return, I checked my credit card statement and saw that I had been charged $533.68 for the rental which was supposed to have cost me $418.23 per my rental agreement through Costco Travel. I called Avis, and I was advised that I had been charged for the filling of the gas tank of the Ford Expedition. Luckily, I had saved the Avis rep’s handwritten notation on my rental agreement, stating that the tank could be returned empty. I don’t know how they could have made my experience more unpleasant had they been trying. I chose them because they were a few dollars cheaper than a competitor just down the street. I will not make that mistake again. I will pay more rather than deal with these incompetent, uncaring people who have no regard for customer service.
